P2489Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit Intermittent or Erratic Bank 2 Sensor 5

P2489 indicates that the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected an intermittent or erratic signal from the exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensor located at bank 2, sensor 5. This sensor monitors the temperature of the exhaust stream after the diesel particulate filter (DPF) or oxidation catalyst on the bank that does not contain cylinder 1. The PCM sets this code when the sensor voltage or resistance readings jump erratically or drop out intermittently, rather than failing completely.
