P2487Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit High Bank 2 Sensor 5

P2487 means the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected an abnormally high voltage on the exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensor circuit for bank 2 sensor 5, which is a post-catalyst sensor on the bank that does not contain cylinder number one. The PCM expects the sensor signal voltage to stay within a calibrated range, and a sustained high reading indicates an open circuit, a short to voltage, or a sensor that is no longer reporting a plausible temperature.
