P2418Evaporative Emission System Switching Valve Control Circuit / Open

P2418 indicates that the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected an open circuit or abnormal voltage on the control circuit for the evaporative emission (EVAP) system switching valve, which is often called the purge valve or canister vent valve depending on the vehicle's design. The PCM commands the valve to open or close during EVAP system tests and expects to see a corresponding change in the circuit, but the feedback does not match the command, so it sets this code.
