P1835 · VolkswagenPressure Control Solenoid 5 Short To B+

P1835 on Volkswagen vehicles means the transmission control module (TCM) has detected a short to battery positive voltage on the circuit for pressure control solenoid number five inside the valve body. The solenoid is an electrically operated hydraulic valve that the TCM uses to regulate clutch apply pressure, and a short to B+ tells the module that the control wire is seeing full battery voltage when it should be seeing a pulsed ground signal.
