P1252 · VolkswagenStart Of Injection Solenoid Circuit Open/Short To Ground

P1252 on Volkswagen vehicles indicates that the engine control module (ECM) has detected an open circuit or a short to ground in the start of injection solenoid circuit. This solenoid is used on certain diesel engines to control the injection timing, and the ECM monitors the circuit for expected voltage and current; when the signal falls outside the expected range, the code is stored and the ECM may default to a limp mode.
