DTC codes / P24xx · Auxiliary emission controls / P2420
P2420 indicates that the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected an abnormally high voltage on the control circuit for the evaporative emission (EVAP) system switching valve, which is often called the purge valve or canister vent valve depending on the vehicle. The PCM commands the valve on or off and monitors the circuit; a high voltage reading means the circuit is seeing voltage above the expected threshold, typically because the control wire is shorted to power, the valve solenoid has an open winding, or the PCM driver is faulty.
Guidance is general and written for all OBD-II vehicles. Exact tests and values vary by model, so confirm the fault before replacing parts.
