P1696 · HondaTraction Control Fuel Cut Signal Low Input

P1696 on Honda vehicles means the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected a low input voltage on the traction control fuel cut signal circuit, which is the wire the PCM uses to request a momentary fuel cut during traction control intervention. The PCM expects to see a specific voltage on this line when the system is idle and when traction control is actively reducing engine torque, and a low reading tells the PCM the circuit is shorted to ground or the signal is missing.
