P1298 · HondaElectrical Load Detector Circuit High Voltage

P1298 on a Honda means the Engine Control Module (ECM) or Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has detected an abnormally high voltage on the Electrical Load Detector (ELD) signal circuit. The ELD is a sensor built into the under-hood fuse box that tells the computer how much electrical current the alternator is producing, and a high-voltage reading means the signal wire is seeing more voltage than the computer expects during normal charging system operation.
