P1164 · GMHO2S Bank 2 Sensor 3 Rich Or High Voltage

P1164 on a GM vehicle means the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected a rich condition or abnormally high voltage signal from the downstream heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) on bank 2, sensor 3. In plain terms, the sensor is reporting that exhaust gas after the catalytic converter on that bank contains more fuel than expected, or the sensor circuit is sending a voltage above the normal switching range. The PCM sets this code when the signal stays high longer than the calibrated threshold, indicating either a genuinely rich exhaust stream or a fault in the sensor and its wiring.
