P1722 · FordGear 2 Incorrect Ratio

P1722 on a Ford vehicle means the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected that the actual gear ratio in second gear does not match the ratio it expects for that gear. The PCM calculates ratio by comparing transmission input shaft speed to output shaft speed, and when the calculated value falls outside the programmed tolerance for second gear, it stores this code and may illuminate the check engine light or wrench light.
