B0105Front Crash Sensor Right Communication Lost

B0105 means the restraint control module has lost communication with the front crash sensor mounted on the right side of the vehicle, so it can no longer receive that sensor's impact data. The module sets this code when the dedicated signal circuit, power feed, or ground path to that sensor goes open, shorted, or intermittent, or when the sensor itself stops responding.

Symptoms you may notice

  • Airbag or supplemental restraint system warning light illuminated on the dashboard
  • A chime or message on the driver information display urging service of the restraint system
  • The restraint system may be disabled or default to a reduced deployment strategy until the fault clears
  • Often no symptoms besides the warning light, with the vehicle driving and starting normally
  • In some vehicles, remote start or other convenience features tied to restraint status may be inhibited

Common causes, most likely first

  1. Damaged, corroded, or disconnected connector at the right front crash sensor, often after front-end bodywork or a minor impact
  2. Broken or chafed wire in the sensor harness where it routes along the front bumper reinforcement or inner fender
  3. Water intrusion into the sensor connector or sensor body causing terminal corrosion and loss of signal
  4. Failed right front crash sensor that no longer communicates on its dedicated circuit
  5. Loss of the sensor's power or ground feed from the restraint control module due to a rubbed-through wire
  6. Restraint control module internal fault on the sensor communication channel
  7. Intermittent open in the harness caused by vibration or a poorly routed repair harness

How to diagnose and fix it

  1. Inspect the right front crash sensor connector and harness for corrosion, pushed terminals, or physical damage, and reseat the connector
  2. Check the sensor's power, ground, and signal circuits with a multimeter against the manufacturer's resistance and voltage specifications
  3. Perform a wiggle test on the harness while watching live sensor data or the code status to expose an intermittent open
  4. Repair or replace damaged wiring and terminals, then clear the code and verify communication returns
  5. If wiring and power checks pass, substitute a known-good sensor of the correct part type and recheck communication
  6. If the sensor and circuits test good, diagnose the restraint control module and its connections before condemning it
  7. After repair, clear codes and confirm the airbag warning light stays off through a full key cycle and road test

Why the right front sensor loses communication

  • This code is frequently set by a loose or corroded connector after front bumper or fender repairs rather than by a failed sensor, so inspect the plug before buying parts.
  • The sensor communicates on a dedicated two-wire circuit in many designs, so a single chafed wire along the bumper reinforcement can set B0105 with no visible damage from outside.
  • A weak or failing battery or a poor ground can cause intermittent communication codes across several modules, so check charging system health before chasing the sensor.
  • Some vehicles store B0105 as a history code after a low-speed impact that did not deploy the airbags, and the code may clear once the connector is reseated and the module reinitializes.
  • Replacing the sensor without clearing and rechecking can leave the code stored if the original fault was in the harness, leading to a repeat repair and a wrongly condemned module.

Can I keep driving with B0105?

The vehicle remains drivable in most cases, but the restraint system may not deploy correctly in a crash, so keep speeds low and avoid rough roads until the fault is repaired. Do not ignore the warning light, and have the system diagnosed promptly rather than disconnecting the airbag warning bulb.

Guidance is general and written for all OBD-II vehicles. Exact tests and values vary by model, so confirm the fault before replacing parts.
