DTC codes / P2Axx · Hybrid propulsion / P2AF9
P2AF9 means the engine control module (ECM) has detected a high voltage condition on the control circuit for starter relay D, which is the relay that supplies power to the starter motor on vehicles with multiple starter relays or a dedicated starter control module. The ECM commands the relay on by grounding its control circuit, and when the voltage on that circuit stays higher than expected, the ECM sets this code because the relay coil is not being energized as designed.
Guidance is general and written for all OBD-II vehicles. Exact tests and values vary by model, so confirm the fault before replacing parts.
