DTC codes / P28xx · Transmission / P2890
P2890 indicates that the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected an abnormal signal on the ion current sense circuit for cylinder 1. The ion current sense system uses a small voltage across the spark plug electrodes after combustion to measure ionization, which helps the PCM detect misfires and optimize ignition timing; this code means the circuit's electrical value is outside the expected range.
Guidance is general and written for all OBD-II vehicles. Exact tests and values vary by model, so confirm the fault before replacing parts.
