DTC codes / P24xx · Auxiliary emission controls / P242D
P242D means the engine computer has detected an abnormally high voltage on the exhaust gas temperature sensor circuit for bank 1 sensor 3, which is typically the sensor positioned after the diesel particulate filter. The high voltage signal tells the computer that the sensor circuit is open, shorted to voltage, or that the sensor element has failed in a way that drives the signal above its expected range.
Guidance is general and written for all OBD-II vehicles. Exact tests and values vary by model, so confirm the fault before replacing parts.
