P0132O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

P0132 means the engine computer has detected an abnormally high voltage on the upstream oxygen sensor circuit for bank 1, which is the side of the engine containing cylinder one. The sensor is reporting a rich exhaust condition or the circuit itself is sending a voltage that is higher than the computer expects during normal closed-loop operation.

Why a rich engine can mimic a bad sensor

  • Silicone from certain sealants or coolant leaking into the combustion chamber can poison the sensor and drive its voltage high, which is why a sensor replacement alone may fail again quickly.
  • A short to voltage on the signal wire is easy to miss because the sensor itself tests fine on the bench, so always wiggle-test the harness while watching live data.
  • Some vehicles set P0132 when the sensor heater circuit fails and the computer misinterprets the resulting voltage, so check heater resistance and supply voltage before condemning the sensor.
  • An exhaust leak upstream of the sensor can pull in oxygen-free exhaust from a neighbouring cylinder and create a false rich reading that looks exactly like a failed sensor.

Can I keep driving with P0132?

You can usually drive the vehicle short distances to a repair shop, but avoid heavy acceleration and long trips because the rich condition can overheat the catalytic converter and waste fuel. If the check engine light begins flashing or the engine runs very rough, stop driving and have it towed.
