P1140 · NissanIntake Valve Timing Control Position Sensor Bank 1

P1140 on Nissan vehicles indicates that the engine control module (ECM) has detected an implausible or missing signal from the intake valve timing control (VTC) position sensor on bank 1. The ECM uses this sensor to monitor the actual position of the intake camshaft phaser, and when the signal does not match commanded timing or falls outside expected parameters, the code is stored and the check engine light is illuminated.
