P1286 · GMAccelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor 3 Performance

P1286 on GM vehicles means the engine control module (ECM) has detected an implausible or out-of-range signal from accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor 3, which is one of the redundant sensors inside the drive-by-wire pedal assembly. The ECM compares the three APP sensor signals against each other and against expected values, and it sets this code when sensor 3's voltage or calculated position does not agree with the other two sensors or falls outside the programmed limits.
