P1709 · FordPark or Neutral Position Switch Out of Self-Test Range

P1709 on Ford vehicles means the transmission range sensor, often called the park/neutral position switch, is reporting a voltage or resistance outside the window the powertrain control module expects during its self-test. The computer has detected that the switch signal does not match the gear selector position it commanded or the other range inputs it monitors.
