Stellantis has announced a recall of more than 211,000 vehicles due to a critical software malfunction within the anti-lock braking system (ABS) affecting vehicle’s general stability. This defect could potentially lead to the deactivation of the electronic stability control (ESC) system, posing an increased risk of vehicular accidents.

The recall specifically targets certain models of the 2022 Dodge Durangos, and Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks. These models have been equipped with an ABS that is integral to the vehicle’s ability to maintain traction and stability during various driving conditions. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the leading U.S. auto safety authority, mandates that the ESC (Electronic Stability Control) systems to remain operational at all times, including when accelerating, coasting, and decelerating, to ensure the highest level of safety at all times.

The ZF Group, a prominent auto parts supplier, has been identified as the provider of the components in question which resulted to the recall. This malfunction has been traced back to a software issue within the ABS system, whose responsibly is preventing wheel lock-up during emergency braking situations and is a critical component of the overall ESC system.

As a remedy, Stellantis dealerships will perform a software update on the affected vehicles’ ABS modules, ensuring that the ESC (Electronic Stability Control) system functions correctly. This proactive measure is part of Stellantis’s commitment to vehicle safety and customer service.

This recall is one of the few issued by Stellantis this year, impacting a number of vehicles. Despite the breadth of this recall, Stellantis has not received any reports of crashes or injuries related to this specific defect. Vehicle owners can expect to receive notification letters by July 26, detailing the steps required to address the issue.

Ensuring Safety and Trust Stellantis’s swift action to rectify the ABS software issue underscores the company’s dedication to maintaining the trust of its customers and ensuring the safety of its vehicles. By addressing this problem head-on, Stellantis reinforces its position as a responsible automotive manufacturer committed to upholding the highest standards of vehicle reliability and customer care.

A 1.5-liter, 400-horsepower engine that weighs just 88 pounds? It sounds like something straight out of a sci-fi novel, yet Nissan brought this powerhouse to life for the DeltaWing project at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This pint-sized engine, nicknamed "Diglett," could rival the power-to-weight ratio of some Formula 1 engines—a feat nearly unheard of for a three-cylinder. With such a compact build, it’s small enough to fit in an airplane’s overhead bin. And yet, it never made it to mainstream production.
