Honda Prologue: The Electric SUV That Will Lead Honda's EV Future

Honda has finally revealed more details of its highly anticipated electric SUV, the 2024 Honda Prologue. The Prologue is Honda's first mass-market EV for the U.S. market, and it promises to deliver a spacious, versatile, and efficient driving experience.

Design and Dimensions

The Honda Prologue has a sleek and muscular design that reflects Honda's current SUV styling language. The front fascia features a slim grille with LED headlights and daytime running lights, while the rear has a wraparound LED taillight bar and a roof spoiler. The Prologue also has a panoramic sunroof, roof rails, and 21-inch aluminum wheels on the Elite trim.

The Prologue is slightly larger than the Honda Passport, with a length of 192 inches, a width of 77.5 inches, and a height of 66.7 inches. The wheelbase is 121.8 inches, which is 8 inches longer than the CR-V and should provide ample legroom for passengers. The cargo capacity is not yet disclosed, but Honda claims that the Prologue has a "large and flexible" trunk space.

Powertrain and Performance

The Honda Prologue will be available in both single-motor and dual-motor configurations, with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The single-motor FWD version will have an estimated output of 201 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque, while the dual-motor AWD version will have an estimated output of 288 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque.

The Prologue will use GM's Ultium battery technology, which is also used in GM's own EVs such as the Chevy Bolt EUV and the GMC Hummer EV. The battery pack size is 85 kWh, which is expected to provide an EPA-estimated range of around 300 miles on a single charge. The exact range figures will vary depending on the trim level and driving conditions.

The Prologue will also support fast charging up to 155 kW, which means that it can add about 65 miles of range in just 10 minutes using a compatible DC fast charger. The Prologue will come with a NACS (North American Common Standard) charging port, which is the same as Tesla's charging port. Honda will also provide a NACS-to-CCS adapter for customers who want to use other charging networks.

Technology and Safety

The Honda Prologue will come with a host of advanced technology and safety features to enhance the driving experience and comfort. The Prologue will have a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as a wireless charging pad for smartphones. The Prologue will also have a digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, a rearview camera mirror, and a Bose premium sound system.

The Prologue will also feature Honda Sensing, which is Honda's suite of driver-assist and safety systems. Some of the features included in Honda Sensing are adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, traffic sign recognition, and driver attention monitor.

Pricing and Availability

The Honda Prologue will be offered in three trim levels: EX, Touring, and Elite. The pricing for each trim level is not yet announced, but Honda says that the starting price for the Prologue will be between $45,000 and $50,000 before any federal or state incentives. The Prologue will go on sale in early 2024 nationwide, but customers can pre-order their Prologue later this year through Honda's website or dealerships.

The Honda Prologue is an important milestone for Honda's EV strategy, as it marks the beginning of a new era for the brand.
