B0005 is a code that tells you there is something wrong with the park brake switch. The park brake switch is used to stop your car from rolling away when you park it.

The park brake switch is usually located on the center console or under the dashboard. When you pull the park brake lever, the switch closes and tells the computer in your car (PCM) that the park brake is on. The PCM then stops the engine from starting and the transmission from shifting out of park.

If the PCM does not get this signal, it will set B0005. This code can be because of:

  • A bad park brake switch
  • A bad wire or connector for the park brake switch
  • A bad PCM
